Kid-Proof – Crayons? Glue? Kids can be a big-time hazard to clean carpet. But don’t worry, your secret weapon is here: VINEGAR. From blobs of pink chewing gum to melted crayons, a quick soak of vinegar can make your carpets look a little more — well — grown up.

C Words – Don’t throw the vinegar away yet. For any vile “c” offenders: catsup, chocolate, cola, and coffee, use a solution of water and vinegar to give that stain a run for its money.

Grease – It may be your favorite old musical, but we’re pretty sure you CRINGE when grease ends up on your carpet. For these stains, sprinkle some cornmeal on the stain and let it sit. The meal will help soak up the grease, making it much easier to clean.

Whining for Wine – Remember that glass of red wine we were talking about? Well, here’s how you can avoid reliving that party every time you glance at your floor. To soak up that stain, sprinkle salt on it and let it sit for several minutes. You’ll begin to see the stain lightening. When this happens, use your trusted solution of vinegar and water to clear up the rest.

Mold-Be-Gone – Nothing says “dirty” more than mold and mildew. If you’ve had your carpet saturated by water leaks, the most important thing to remember is to get the carpet dry, but using fans or even hair dryers. You can kill the mold by using a solution of vinegar and water, but be sure to dry the carpet completely after moistening.
